It nails its target
You freeze in fear as the thing lunges at you. It immediately hits you and you expect pain but instead of anything such as a claw, it feels like a splash of water on your face. You try to open your eyes but you can't see anything.
You try to move and think what is going on, but nothing works. As you try to think, new thoughts come to your mind. All you can think about is spreading the sludge, hunting prey and absorbing it. You open your eyes and find you can see much easier in the dark and you can hear much easier, your skin is now dark sludge, you have powerful legs, and your hands and even your hair turn into large claws.
You stand up as you look over your surroundings and you run off.
